The initial crews called in extra resources when they found the two storey home well alight, and threatening to spread to the neighbouring properties.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters began an internal attack to contain the blaze and protect the neighbouring homes.

Despite a collapsed stairwell and thick smoke, crews brought the fire under control within 40 minutes.

The home appears to be under renovation and fortunately no one was home at the time of the blaze, however the family next door evacuated as a precaution.

They were assessed by Ambulance Victoria paramedics at the scene.

Firefighters believe the fire may have started under suspicious circumstances and will hand the scene to Victoria Police for further investigation once the fire has been completely extinguished.

At the height of the fire there were seven firefighting appliances on scene including a rescue and aerial unit, in addition to support units and a Commander.

FRV was also supported by Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria.
