Twelve FRV firefighters responded to a fire at a Sandringham property in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the Minnie Street fire shortly after 2.10am and crews arrived within seven minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found a substantial fire on the ground level, located beside the house and involving rubbish bins, a pool pump and heater.

Crews quickly attacked the fire, bringing it under control within 15 minutes.

The five occupants of the house had evacuated and thankfully no injuries were reported.

The fire appears to have started when hot ash was placed in the rubbish bin.

Always check that all embers are cold before disposing of them.
