Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes and discovered a fire at a single storey weatherboard house on Ferndale Road.

Wearing breathing apparatus firefighters conducted a search of the house, but found that the property was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Crews worked to knock down the blaze, which had taken hold of the front of the house and roof.

The fire was brought under control just before 4am, roughly 25 minutes after FRV crews arrived on scene.

At the height of the incident there were six firefighting appliances on scene, along with three additional units.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene to assist FRV.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but will be investigated.
