A laptop left on charge on a bed is believed to be the cause of fire which tore through a home in North Bendigo this afternoon.
Crews were called to the Bakewell Street address shortly before 2pm and arrived within five minutes to find thick smoke billowing from the weatherboard property.
Firefighters attacked the flames which had engulfed two rooms and spread into the roof space. They were able to get the incident under control by 2.47pm.
Fortunately, all occupants of the home had managed to evacuate safely.
Firefighters were able to establish that the cause of the incident was a laptop left on charge on a bed.
FRV Senior Station Officer Craig Houlahan warned the community to take safety precautions when charging electronic battery devices.
"Always have these devices on a hard surface to allow for heat exchange when the battery is being charged," SSO Houlahan said.
"It's also preferable to charge devices in an area where they can be seen during the day and not to charge any device in the bedroom overnight."
