Crews arrived on scene within seven minutes to find a 35 X 35m rubbish fire containing metals and debris threatening nearby buildings on site and quickly despatched more resources to the scene.
Two Telebooms, a Rescue appliance and 10 Pumpers were assisted by several support and specialist vehicles and worked to make the scene safe, with the scene under control at approximately 3:30am.
Thankfully no injuries were reported and the fire was contained to the pile of rubbish.
FRV was supported by Police, AV, EPA, and Melbourne Water and remains on scene to monitor potential hot spots and investigate the cause of the blaze.
Fitzgerald Road may remain closed for some time and community members should avoid the area if possible.
