Marine and Hazmat crews respond to Station Pier

Approximately 20 firefighters responded to Port Melbourne this afternoon, following reports of smoke issuing from a boat just after 4:30pm.

FRV’s specialist fire boat was deployed and located the affected vessel in Port Phillip Bay, approximately 1km from Station Pier.

Fortunately the fire had been extinguished when crews arrived at the scene, and marine firefighters were able to assist the vessel safely back to the pier.

FRV crews inspected the boat to ensure there was no additional fire risk and worked to make the scene safe.

A specialist FRV Hazmat team was also deployed to Station Pier after a fuel leak was identified on-board the vessel.

The incident was declared under control shortly before 6pm. 

Victoria Police and EPA assisted at the scene.
