Marine firefighters rescue kayaker in Port Melbourne

FRV’s specialist marine firefighting crew rescued an injured kayaker in Port Melbourne on Friday morning.

Firefighters on board FRV’s Fireboat were patrolling Port Phillip Bay when they saw that a kayaker had capsized near Princes Pier around 9.45am.

Firefighters quickly travelled to the kayaker’s location, finding a man in a semi-conscious condition and in significant distress.

Firefighters pulled the man from the water and provided initial emergency care, while transporting him back to the shore.

The man was transferred into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics for treatment and transportation to hospital.

Victoria Police also attended the scene.
