More than 100 firefighters respond to factory fires in Cheltenham

More than 100 FRV firefighters are responding to two adjoining factory fires in Cheltenham.

A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported the fire just after 12.40am and crews arrived at the Age Street Street scene within six minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found the fire fully involved, at a size of 60 metres by 60 metres, with some of the external walls collapsing.

Crews immediately escalated the response.

Crews used multiple appliances to attack the fire, including aerial appliances to attack the fire from above.

Hazmat units are also on scene and drones have been deployed to get a full view of the fire through thermal imaging.

CFA firefighters also supported the response to the fire. 

SES, Victoria Police and power companies supported FRV at the scene.

The Environment Protection Authority has been notified of the event.

An advice message has been being issued for Bentleigh East, Cheltenham, Clarinda, Heatherton, Highett, Moorabbin, Moorabbin East and Oakleigh South.

Smoke will be visible from nearby roads and communities.

There is currently no threat to the community, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.

Update: 4am

Firefighters stopped the fire from spreading to other adjoining buildings, bringing the fire under control just after 3.50am.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

The advice message to the community about smoke has been lifted.
