Motor Vehicle Collision City Road Southbank

Approximately 15 firefighters responded to a motor vehicle collision in Southbank on City Road and Power Street at 7pm.

Arriving 4 minutes after the call, FRV firefighters found a car had collided with a traffic light. The traffic light had fallen onto the car with two people trapped.

Firefighters quickly worked to escalate the response the despatch additional resources and work with the local power company to isolate electricity in the area.

FRV Heavy Rescue crews then attended to release the patients. The incident caused significant traffic issues around the South Melbourne area and Victoria Police were on scene for traffic control.

In total three Pumpers and two Rescue units were assisted by one specialist FRV vehicle.

FRV and Ambulance Victoria paramedics treated a total of six patients for various injuries and all were transported to hospitals.

The incident was brought under control within 17 minutes.

Victoria Police will be investigating the cause of the collision.
