Newport house fire under control

28 firefighters were quickly despatched following multiple Triple Zero calls regarding a house fire in Newport this morning.

Crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find the single storey weatherboard home significantly involved with the fire threatening an adjacent property.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly established water hose lines to prevent spread to the adjoining property and contain the fire. The fire was brought under control in 33 minutes.

One patient was placed into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics. The rear section of the house and roof has suffered significant damage from the fire. The cause is yet to be determined.

Crews will remain on scene for some time to ensure the fire is completely extinguished and the area is safe.

Five Pumpers, one Rescue unit and a Teleboom were supported by two specialist vehicles.
