Initial crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find a home well alight on Genoa Street, with fire issuing from the front and the rear of the double storey brick property.

Crews wearing breathing apparatus gained access to the building and quickly knocked the fire down, bringing it under control just after midnight.

There were initial concerns the occupants may have been trapped upstairs, however they thankfully evacuated safely and were assessed by Ambulance Victoria paramedics as a precaution.

At the height of the fire there were seven firefighting appliances on scene, including a rescue and an aerial teleboom along with a Command unit.

Crews remained on scene into the evening working to completely extinguish the fire, and monitor for any remaining hot spots.

Firefighters believe the cause of the fire was accidental.
