Approximately 26 firefighters responded to a house fire in Northcote on Friday night.

A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported the blaze in Elm Street just after 11:45pm.

Firefighters arrived on scene in six minutes and wearing breathing apparatus, began attacking the fast developing fire, which had started at the rear of the house.

Fortunately all the occupants of the house had already safely evacuated.

Firefighters worked to contain the fire to a rear bedroom, and brought it under control in 31 minutes.

They deemed the cause to be accidental, and FRV crews remained on scene to ensure it was safe.

FRV firefighters worked alongside Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria at the scene.
