Firefighters arrived just before 1:30am, and found the rear of a single storey brick home well alight, with fire spreading to the roof space.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection, firefighters made their way into the building to conduct a search and commenced an internal attack on the fire.

Thankfully, no occupants were home at the time.

Crews brought the fire under control in 20 minutes and contained it to the rear of the property, however there was heat and smoke damage throughout the home.

Firefighters remained on scene into the early hours of Sunday morning to completely extinguish the fire – using thermal imaging cameras to identify any remaining hot spots.

FRV believes the fire may have started under suspicious circumstances, and the scene will be handed to Victoria Police for further investigation.

At the height of the incident there were seven FRV firefighting appliances at the scene and around 22 firefighters.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended to assist FRV crews.
