Residents escape house fire in Highett

At 4.05AM Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in Highett Rod after multiple calls to triple Zero (000) were received for smoke and flames issuing from a 2 Storey residence.

FRV crews arrived on scene within 5 minutes to find flames on the balcony and the top floor apartment heavily smoke logged.

The residents of the apartment were trapped inside, but eventually managed to escape.

A Second Alarm response was called and crews in Breathing Apparatus worked to assist with evacuation and bring the fire under control within 45 minutes.

The residents suffered smoke inhalation. Ambulance and Police responded in support to assist with evacuations and patients.

All residents appear to be accounted for at the time of report.

FRV crews remain on scene conducting overhaul.
