Firefighters arrived to New Street within five minutes and found the ground floor of a double storey unit fully involved in the fire.
Wearing breathing apparatus, crews began attacking the fire to prevent the blaze spreading to adjoining units.
Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and searched the property for residents, but found the unit unoccupied.
The blaze was declared under control less than 20 minutes after initial FRV crews arrived on scene.
At the height of the incident there were seven firefighting appliances at the scene, along with three other units.
The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, but specialist fire investigators will attend the scene.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police units also assisted at the scene.
