Roof fire in Mitcham

Approximately 30 firefighters responded to Mitcham after a number of Triple Zero (000) callers reported a roof on fire shortly after 5:30pm.

FRV crews arrived on scene at Heatherdale Road within seven minutes to find the roof of a two storey home involved in the blaze.

Fortunately, residents had already safely evacuated the building.

Firefighters set up hose lines to the top level of the building and worked quickly to contain the blaze.

The fire was declared under control within 15 minutes of FRV crews arrival on scene.

At the height of the incident there were eight FRV appliances at the scene, along with two additional units.

The exact cause of the fire is not yet known, but FRV’s specialist fire investigators will attend the scene.

CFA, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria units also attended the incident and supported FRV crews.

A community advice message was issued for smoke in the area.
