FRV crews were called to a high rise building in Williamstown in the early hours of Saturday morning following a call to Triple Zero (000) reporting a fire in the upper floors of the building.

Arriving on scene within six minutes 22 firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found a fire in the rubbish chute emitting acrid smoke around the building.

Crews evacuated approximately 30 people from the building before working to contain and extinguish the fire, which was brought under control after 40 minutes.

Tenants began to return to their residences by 4.15am, just over one hour after the Triple Zero call was made. Thankfully there were no injuries caused as a result of the fire.

The fire was not deemed to be suspicious. Victoria Police were on scene to assist FRV.
