Smoke alarms save Greensborough family

Two people escaped a large house fire at Brinawa Drive, Greensborough on Thursday night, thanks to their working smoke alarms.

One of the occupants was sleeping on the upper floor of the two-storey brick house, when she was woken by a working smoke alarm shortly before 5pm.

She discovered the fire on the ground floor and safely evacuated with her pets.

Firefighters arrived on scene within minutes, and attacked the fire, sending additional resources to the scene.

At the height of the incident, more than 30 firefighters were on scene.

Crews brought the fire under control within one hour and 20 minutes of arrival.

The occupant and one other person were transported to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.
