Smoke issues from Keysborough factory as crews work to contain fire

FRV crews have responded to Bridge Road in Keysborough, after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of a building just after 10am.

FRV crews from Dandenong Fire Station arrived on scene within six minutes to find a factory alight with a large amount of smoke issuing.

Crews quickly called in for support and escalated the response.

There are currently more than approximately 25 FRV firefighters and seven FRV appliances on scene including a ladder platform, a rescue and a hazmat unit in addition to command units.

FRV is working with the assistance of CFA crews to contain the fire and bring it under control.

This will be a protracted incident and crews are likely to remain on scene for some time.

The public is advised to avoid the area where possible while emergency services respond.

There is a lot of smoke in the area. Residents who are sensitive to smoke should close windows and doors, and turn off heating or cooling systems.

UPDATE:

Thanks to the efforts of responding firefighters, the incident was declared under control at 11:22am. Firefighters will remain on scene to extinguish the fire and monitor any remaining hot spots. 

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
