Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a reported chemical leak in Pentridge Boulevard, Coburg this afternoon.
Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find an open container of chlorine in a maintenance room.
FRV crews wore breathing apparatus to evacuate and isolate the immediate area of the building and conduct air monitoring procedures.
An FRV Scientific Advisor and FRV specialist HAZMAT crews also responded and undertook full HAZMAT containment procedures.
Further evacuations occurred to ensure no one is adversely affected.
Ambulance Victoria is on scene to monitor firefighter health and asses those evacuated.
Victoria Police is assisting with evacuations and traffic control.
Firefighters will remain on scene for some time to ensure the leak is contained.
