Suspicious fire takes hold of building in Coburg North

Approximately 30 Firefighters deployed to Coburg North following two calls to triple zero (000) this morning.

The first FRV crew arrived to the Lyon Street property within seven minutes, just before 7am.

They were met with a fire that had taken hold of a single storey weatherboard property, which had flames coming from the roof.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, crews entered the property and began to attack the fire from the inside.

Crews were able to contain the fire within the walls, however at least three quarters of the property has been destroyed in the blaze.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within one hour, however will remain on scene to ensure the fire is completely extinguished.

The fire is believed to have started under suspicious circumstances, and once the scene has been made safe it will be handed to Victoria Police for further investigation.

Thankfully, there was no one inside the property at the time.

At the height of the blaze there were five pumpers, a rescue unit, an aerial unit and three other Command and support units at the incident.
