Suspicious garage fire in Oakleigh East

More than 30 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Oakleigh East in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Crews were called to the address in Sunshine Street at 4:15am following multiple reports of flames and smoke.

Firefighters arrived within six minutes to find flames issuing from the garage of a two-storey house, with all occupants having self-evacuated. Firefighters immediately escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews worked to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to the home. The incident was deemed under control at 4:25am.

One patient was treated by Ambulance Victoria paramedics at the scene.

At this stage the fire is being treated as suspicious, and the incident has been handed over to Victoria Police to investigate.
