Suspicious house fire in Melton South

Approximately 30 firefighters responded to a house fire in Melton South on Saturday afternoon.

FRV crews were called to the Staughton Street incident about 3:30pm after several callers to Triple Zero (000) reported black smoke coming from the house.

Firefighters arrived on scene in six minutes to find the house fully alight.

Wearing breathing apparatus, they attacked the fire and brought it under control within 30 minutes.

Nobody was in the house at the time of the fire.

Firefighters determined the cause to be suspicious, and will hand the scene over to Victoria Police for further investigation once all hot spots have been made safe.

Victoria Police are assisting FRV crews on scene.
