Several callers to triple zero (000) alerted the emergency services, and FRV quickly escalated the response.

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes and were met with the rear of the house full alight, threatening to spread to the front of the home.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, firefighters entered the house to commence a thorough search – thankfully there was no one inside.

Swift work by FRV crews ensured the fire was contained to the back of the house.

The incident was declared under control in around half an hour.

FRV issued a community advice message as there was a lot of smoke in the area.

Nearby residents were advised to stay indoors, close doors and windows and keep the roads clear for emergency services.

Firefighters remained on scene into the early hours of Tuesday morning to ensure the fire had been completely extinguished.

Firefighters believe the fire may have started under suspicious circumstances, and the scene has been handed to Victoria Police for further investigation.

At the height of the fire there were eight firefighting appliances on scene in addition to three command and support units.
