Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) just after 5:20pm reported smoke and a grass fire near Dover Street that was spreading towards houses.

FRV firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes, and quickly escalated the response.

The fire quickly picked up momentum in an open grassy reserve and spread in a northerly direction toward Clovelly Crescent.

The fire was declared under control at around 6pm, around 30 minutes after first crews arrived on scene.

Thankfully, there have been no injuries or damage to property reported.

At the height of the fire there were around 50 firefighters on scene including four FRV firefighting appliances and two command units, being supported by approximately 14 CFA units.

A Watch and Act message was issued for residents of Truganina.

Residents affected by smoke in the area are advised to close their windows and doors, and switch off any reverse cycle air conditioning units.

Anyone experiencing wheezing, chest tightness and difficulty breathing should call Triple Zero (000).

Emergency services will remain on scene until the fire has been completely extinguished, and the community are advised to keep the roads clear for emergency vehicles.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are on scene assisting FRV operations. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
