Two houses impacted by Highett garage fire

Approximately 34 firefighters responded to a garage fire in Highett on Friday night.

FRV crews were called to the Mt View Road incident just after 10:30pm, after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire in the garage spreading to a house.

Firefighters arrived on scene in six minutes to find the garage fully alight and spreading to the house, as well as the back of a neighbouring property.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews attacked the blaze to stop it spreading further, and brought the fire under control about 40 minutes after they first arrived on scene.

All occupants of both houses had safely evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Firefighters remained on scene overnight to monitor for hotspots, and specialist Fire Rescue Victoria investigators will attend this morning to determine the cause.
