Approximately 30 firefighters responded to a house fire in Sydenham overnight.

FRV crews were called to the Chittenup Bend incident about 12:15am on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived on scene in to find the house fully alight.

Fortunately, a smoke alarm had alerted the occupants to the fire, and they safely self-evacuated with their two pet dogs.

Crews aggressively attacked the fire, and stopped it spreading to a neighbouring house.

They brought the blaze under control 25 minutes after they first arrived on scene.

Crews remained on scene to ensure it was safe, and specialist FRV fire investigators will attend this morning to determine the cause.

FRV worked alongside Victoria Police at the incident.
