The safety of the community and our firefighters is paramount.
Victoria has a strong complementary fire and rescue force that was well prepared to respond to this incident.
True to our shared goal of protecting the community, CFA readily responded to assist FRV, turning out two units from Geelong West to the scene.
CFA volunteers from Corio and Lara remained in place so FRV appliances could be moved up from Melbourne.
There is currently no threat to the community, but you should continue to stay informed and monitor conditions.
Air monitoring in the local area shows air quality is good and water quality from firewater runoff has had minimal impacts.
The fire has been extinguished, and the incident was deemed under control at 12.04pm.
The fire appears to have been caused by an equipment failure and will be thoroughly investigated by FRV, WorkSafe, Victoria Police and Viva Refinery.
The production of diesel and petrol continues, however it has been reduced for safety reasons.
Firefighters remain on scene and we continue to monitor the situation and work with Viva and partner agencies to ensure the safe operation of the site.
